About the NTT History Center of Technologies

Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the NTT History Center of Technologies

The NTT History Center of Technologies celebrated its 25th anniversary in November 2025. Since its opening in 2000, the center has systematically exhibited historical materials documenting the technological development of the NTT Group, focusing on the half-century since the founding of the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation in 1952. When the center first opened, visits required reservations, but since 2010, we have offered public open days to allow visits without the need for a reservation. To this day, the center has welcomed numerous visitors. We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have visited us and to everyone who has shown interest in our center.

Interaction with visitors to our center is something we consider a great asset. On public open days (Thursdays and Fridays), our enthusiastic alumni volunteers provide guided tours, sharing the ingenuity and hard work of the engineers behind the exhibits.Additionally, we provide learning opportunities for a wide range of generations and backgrounds, from elementary school field trips, through to corporate and student group tours and seasonal events.

As we mark our 25th anniversary, we want to reaffirm the importance of "learning from the past to understand the present." Hints for the present are often buried within historical records. Moving forward, we intend to continue to develop the center's role as a place for thoughtful exploration, bridging the research insights of our laboratories with the field experience of our engineers and fostering the creation of future technologies. Please feel free to visit us. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.

About the NTT History Center of Technologies

The NTT History Center of Technologies exhibits a comprehensive collection of historical assets based on the vast technical archives of the NTT Group.

The NTT History Center of Technologies is a corporate museum that chronicles and compiles historical assets related to technological developments in telecommunications achieved by the NTT Group, with a focus on the half-century since the founding of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation.
Learning about the creativity and dedication behind the development of various proprietary technologies created to meet the social demands of each historical era should provide essential inspiration for those tackling today's increasingly complex societal challenges with technology. This is especially important in today's fiercely competitive international environment.
We hope this center will serve as a source of inspiration for those who will put their shoulders to the wheel of the new century and lead the world by doing so.

Facility Overview

The center displays its preserved materials in two distinct domains, allowing visitors to explore exhibits in a way tailored to their individual interests."Tracing the History" broadly explores the relationship between technology and society through the flow of history, while "Exploring the Technologies" details the lineage of technological development within each technical field. We hope that you will enjoy this two-domain exhibition layout.

Exhibition Content for "Tracing the History"

After providing an overview of the founding of the telegraph and telephone services and their postwar history, this domain vividly depicts the technological and service advancements of the first half-century of the postwar era - beginning with the establishment of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation - while connecting them to broader societal changes. It offers an easy-to-follow history of Japan's information and communications development.

Exhibition Content for "Exploring the Technologies"

After the historical period that saw the dawn of telegraph and telephone technology, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation evolved into the NTT Group. Various technological advances across a number of fields-such as the advent of semiconductor devices and computers, the spread of optical fiber, and the rise of mobile communications and smartphones-have profoundly transformed daily life and industry. These advancements are introduced at the "Approaches" exhibit, which symbolically presents each technological field, and at the "Exhibition Rooms (A through J)," which detail developments within each field.
